Well This Illustrated Many Of My Points
2009 June 20
Why do I disapprove of the general ignorant, right-wing conservative side of this country? Well lets take a look at the David Letterman protest.
Yes, the DAVID LETTERMAN PROTEST because of a joke he shouldn’t have made on that television show.
I completely agree the joke was in bad taste, but not only that… It didn’t make sense. It confused Palin’s 17 year old daughter with her 14 year old. It was a botched joke. Anyways… This is a sizable population of our country, and I think that is generally sad.
So let me get this straight. It is not okay to make a joke about a 14 year old girl when you really meant to make one about an 18 year old girl, one that has a child out of wed-lock (and to quote a protester “There is a word for that”) and to apologize many times. BUT, it is ok to insult a 6 year old boy by calling him a bastard (while missing the point of Sarah Palin’s born out of wed lock grandson to two parents that are fighting over custody, something David Letterman’s son did not have to go through at such a young age) and insulting the mother of his child/wife and that he will rape children with his mouth.
Now I have worked with children that were sexually abused and I have never had a case of a child being raped by the mouth of a man through the TV. One of the biggest problems I have seen working with children and adults is that the more religious a person seems to be, the more they neglect their education. This video illustrates that point.
Should he have made a joke aimed at a 14 year old or 18 year old, no probably not. But I guess we should not make jokes about any child at any “American Baseball Game”
I will remember that next time. But those at the Mexican ones and (those most feared) Terrorists ones are fair game.
I didn’t watch the video so I don’t know what’s going on. While I don’t agree with all of the protests outside of Letterman’s show, I do think that he is getting what’s coming to him. Free speech is a right in the country, but you have to brace for the impact of that free speech. Additionally, it doesn’t matter about the age, sex, or whatever of the kids in question. Kids shouldn’t become targets for public/national ridicule. It shouldn’t matter if “Palin” follows your first name or not. I think Sarah Palin had every right to make an issue of the situation, not as a ‘right winger,’ but as a mother. I would expect any parent to defend their child in any way possible. It just so happens Sarah Palin has the advantage of the press, as opposed to your regular parent. The jokes about the “slutty stewardess outfit,” shouldn’t be an issue. Sarah is a grown adult who has willfully allowed herself to be under the public’s scrutiny. But no child, of any parent, should have to be humiliated to such an extent. I think Letterman’s apology was sincere and genuine. His sponsors and his viewers will decide the rest.
Well that’s the thing, the joke was never meant to be targeted at a child. It was meant to be targeted at Bristol Palin, who is 18. Adult. The issue is how the joke writers didn’t have their facts straight, and Palin had her younger daughter with her. They thought she had Bristol. They made a mistake that caused the joke to be in excessively poor taste. I agree to that. Still, you’re right, he made an honest apology and invited her on to his show, and then…. Well, do take time to watch the video.
No need to see the video. I’m quite sure what they say in it. Trust me, I know how “they” are. I’m a conservative, but I ain’t that bad. But that is just a sign of the times I guess….when the economy is so bad that conservatives join the hippies in the “art” of protesting.
I should also note that I’m at work and can’t watch it from here.
